Sunday Wrap-up In a Rush

This week was a blur of classes, meetings, and errands. It will be good to have a day where I don’t have to go anywhere.

This week on the blog:

What’s coming up:

Karen and I are going to start discussing Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder for The Bestseller Code 100 challenge.

Books currently reading:

After plowing through the challenge books this week, I needed something comfortable and easy to read. I picked up the first Nero Wolfe mystery, Fer-de-Lance* by Rex Stout.

I devoured the Nero Wolfe books when I was younger. Reading them again from a writer’s perspective opens up a whole new level of appreciation.

Do you have a favorite book or author you grab when you want a fast, comfortable read?

Pairing travel and reading seems like a natural thing. BookRiot has some suggestions this week for reading locally when traveling.  In a shameless plug, I’ve been keeping a (rather neglected) list of children’s books for families traveling through the states. Someday, I’d love to see it expanded to other countries.

Today we’re joining the Sunday Post meme at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer blog. She has some big news today!

I have several authors that I go to for comfort. Phyllis A. Whitney is a must for me. I have all of her books and have re-read them countless times. Hope you have a great week! ~Aleen

I haven’t read Phyllis A. Whitney in quite some time. Good suggestion.

I liked your review of Shutter Island from a writing perspective. I’ve heard of the book but have not read it, but am intrigued. From what I understand it gets a bit twisty and ambiguous towards the end. And I actually do like a good prologue, although it depends on the story.

      Greg,

Twisty and ambiguous is an understatement. If you like to ponder a book long after you’ve finished it, Shutter Island is just the ticket.

I have a few favorite authors I grab whenever they bring out a new book: Laura Lippman, Lisa Gardner, Lisa Scottoline, Lisa Unger (what’s up with the Lisas? lol).

Catherine McKenzie, Karen White, and Diane Chamberlain. There are more, but these are a good start, don’t you think?

Blogging has brought a whole new list of favorites. Thanks for sharing your updates, and enjoy the week.

I met Lisa Under at a local book festival last spring. She’s great. I also pick up Lisa Gardner’s as soon as they come out. Awesome list!

I’ve never read Dennis Lehane from memory, but not sure why. I’m intrigued about your idea of reviewing the book from a writer’s perspective so off to check that out!

I’m open for suggestions about the reviewing from a writer’s perspective. It’s something new we’re trying to accompany the reading challenge.
